Tropic Storm Warning : ODPEM Advises

The Office of Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management ODPEM is advising that a TROPICAL STORM WARNING remains in effect for the island.
 
This means that tropical storm conditions, including possible sustained wind speeds of 63-118 km/h are still expected.
 
The Meteorological Service has advised that outbreaks of heavy showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected to continue over most of the island, especially southern parishes, today.
 
Flash flooding is still possible over low-lying and flood-prone areas.
 
The ODPEM has alerted all Agencies and Parish Disaster Committees. Emergency managers, responders and volunteers are placed on standby and the Parish Shelter Mechanism has been activated.
 
All Parish Emergency Operation Centers have also been activated.
 
The Public is asked to continue monitoring the radio for further advisories and to avoid areas that are at risk from flooding and landslides.
 
Also take the following precautions in the event of heavy rains:
 
1. Be ready to evacuate if you live in low-lying or flood-prone areas.
 
2. Decide on likely evacuation routes 
 
3. Avoid flooded waterways,such as fording, gullies, streams or rivers, either on foot or in vehicles.

All small craft operators, including fishers from the cays and banks are reminded to remain in safe harbour until all warning messages have been lifted and wind and sea conditions return to normal
